Audi R8 Hyper Black Edition by Anderson Germany

Anderson Germany has unveiled the new Audi R8 Hyper Black Edition.

Described as a road-going UFO, the HBE features a carbon fiber body kit with a front lip spoiler, an aggressive rear diffuser, and a massive rear wing. Elsewhere, there's tinted windows, smoked tail lights, orange brake calipers, and 19-inch alloy wheels with carbon fiber accents. Last but not least, the car is painted an exclusive color which has unsurprisingly been called Hyper Black.

Inside, the carbon fiber theme continues as the lightweight material is applied to virtually everything including the handbrake, door panels, center console, and steering wheel. Additionally, there are leather seats, Alcantara accents, and numerous orange highlights.

To give the car a little extra oomph, the tuner installed a high-flow air filter, a revised ECU, and a sport exhaust system with remote-controlled sound control valves. Thanks to these modifications, the 5.2-liter V10 engine produces 589 PS (433 kW / 581 hp) - an increase of 64 PS (47 kW / 63 hp).

This is the Sportec SP 800 R, based on the Porsche GT2 RS.

Aerodynamic touches are light, as Sportec only fits the range-topping (and fastest production 911 ever) with their own front lip spoiler and rear spoiler - all in carbon fiber, of course.

Under the hood, the 3.6 liter flat-six now delivers 800 PS (588 kW / 789 bhp) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque over the series' 620 PS (462 kW) thanks to a new hybrid turbocharger, sport camshaft, sport intercoolers, new connecting rods, sport air filter, and an ECU-remap. Also helping with output is the new titanium sport exhaust.

All told the extra power is good for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 3.1 seconds while top speed is a more-than-breezy 373 km/h (232 mph) - substantial bumps over the production model's 3.5 second run and 330 km/h (205 mph) top speed.

Replacing the series model's 19-inchers are the Sportec Mono/7 alloy 20-inch (ET40) wheels with central locking and Cup tires - in dimensions 9 x 20-inch and 12 x 20-inch, with 245/30/R20 und 315/25/R20 tires, front and back, respectively.

The SP 800 R gets a suspension lowering of 25 mm for increased downforce too.

New BMW 6 Series Coupe

BMW has revealed the production version of its F12 6 Series Coupe.

The new car may have grown - it’s around seven centimetres longer and four centimetres wider - but BMW has played it much safer with the styling this time around. The back half in particular is a lot less bold than the last 6 Series, and from some angles it seems that the long-defunct 8 Series provided most of the inspiration.

Up front, the view is dominated by a wide double kidney grille that, in a nod to BMW models of old, has slightly forward-slanting slats. This is flanked by the familiar quad-headlights, which are bi-xenon as standard. If they’re not good enough though, adaptive LED units can be specified as a cost option instead.

At launch buyers will have the choice of 640i or 650i versions, both of which feature direct petrol injection and twin turbochargers. The only transmission on offer is an eight-speed automatic, with no manual alternative available.

Surprisingly, there’s no diesel option yet, but expect one to join the line-up at a later date.

CO2 emissions 179 g/km 243 g/km

Both variants feature various BMW EfficientDynamics technologies that are there to increase fuel economy and reduce emissions. These include electric power steering (Integral Active Steering is optional), brake energy regeneration, low rolling resistance tyres and on-demand use of ancillaries.

Lightweight materials have also been extensively employed: for instance, the front wings are plastic, the boot lid is made from a glass fibre composite and the bonnet, doors, and front axle spring mounts are all aluminium. However, despite that, body strength doesn’t suffer and it’s claimed that the torsional rigidity of the new 6 Series is 53 percent greater compared to the previous generation model.

The 640i furthermore benefits from an automatic start-stop system, plus active air flap control to optimise the aerodynamics. It also gets an Eco Pro mode for the Drive Dynamic Control in addition to the standard Normal, Sport and Sport+ settings.

Eco Pro essentially configures everything to save fuel. So, the engine management system, gearbox shift patterns and accelerator mapping all work together to keep revs down, while power consumption for electrical items such as the climate control, seat heating and door mirror defrosting is kept to a minimum.

On the inside, the growth in exterior dimensions and wheelbase should be particularly appreciated by the rear-seat passengers, who now enjoy more shoulder, elbow and head room. Luggage capacity is 460 litres (16.24 cu. ft.), but BMW’s need to point out that three golf bags will fit in the boot clearly signals the intended target market for the car.

UK prices for the BMW 6 Series Coupe have been set at £59,550 for the 640i SE and £67,300 for the 650i SE.

Smart fortwo nightorange

Smart has announced that the limited edition fortwo nightorange will be coming the UK, following its debut in mainland European markets earlier this year.

As the name implies, the distinguishing feature is the orange paintwork that, depending on your point of view, looks either very chic or a bit municipal authority. Offsetting the orangeness are the 15” alloys, tridion safety cell, grilles and door mirror housings, all of which are finished in black.

The dark theme is carried over to the interior, where the seats are upholstered in black nappa leather and cloth. A similar shade is used for the clock and tachometer pods, special floor mats, sports steering wheel and dashboard trim.

235 examples of the fortwo nightorange will be available, in either coupé or convertible guise. Unlike the diesel-powered fortwo lightshine edition that appeared back in January, nightorange buyers get a choice of two petrol engines.

The obvious option for anyone wanting to avoid paying road tax or the London Congestion Charge is the 70 bhp (52 kW / 71 PS) micro hybrid unit, because CO2 emissions don’t exceed 100 g/km.

Alternatively, there’s the 82 bhp (62 kW / 84 PS) motor. Capacity is still 999 cc, but thanks to the addition of a turbocharger performance is more brisk - the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time is cut from 13.7 to 10.7 seconds, for example. The trade-off is reduced efficiency, but combined cycle consumption of 57.6 mpg (4.9 l/100km) and a CO2 figure of 115 g/km still aren’t too bad.

Smart has confirmed UK prices as follows:

70 bhp nightorange coupé - £9,995

82 bhp nightorange coupé - £10,495

70 bhp nightorange cabriolet - £11,495

82 bhp nightorange cabriolet - £11,995

Chevy Captiva for the US

Chevrolet’s Captiva is set to become a truly global vehicle. The compact crossover, which is already available in more than fifty territories worldwide, will soon add the United States to its tally of markets when sales begin there towards the end of this year.

To be known as the Captiva Sport in the US, Chevrolet is aiming its new addition primarily at fleet customers. Arguably it’s a direct replacement for the defunct Saturn Vue, which was itself based on the Captiva’s very close relation, the Vauxhall / Opel Antara.

Buyers will be able to choose from either a 182 bhp (136 kW / 184PS) 2.4 litre I4 or a 264 bhp (197 kW / 267 PS) 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine, both mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox - no diesels or manual transmissions here, predictably. Front- and all-wheel drive versions will be available, but no performance or economy figures have been released.

Proposed equipment levels are generous. Base LS spec models will come with air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, traction control, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, XM satellite radio, 17” alloy wheels and remote keyless entry.

The LT trim level adds OnStar and Bluetooth telephone connectivity, while the range-topping LTZ additionally gets leather trim, heated front seats, sunroof, ten-speaker sound system and a rear-view camera.

Whereas the Captiva currently available in Europe is produced in South Korea, the Captiva Sport is going to be built in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. Chevrolet has yet to reveal prices, but they’ll need to be sufficiently less than those of the existing Equinox crossover, which is only slightly larger.

So far, it was estimated that it will hold mechanical equipment i8 concept model with a 163HP diesel engine 1.5 liter three cylinder located behind the rear seat and two electric motors, one located between the diesel engine and six-speed dual-clutch transmission and the second in front of the vehicle.

But while the motors remain in a recent interview with Autocar, BMW R & D chief Klaus Draeger has shown that diesel will be replaced by a gasoline engine in the production model. "We want to sell worldwide. Diesel is really important for Europe," Draeger was quoted as saying.

I8 plug-in hybrid sports car is scheduled to arrive on the market with a small sedan i3 (formerly known as Mega City) in 2013.

Ford B-MAX concept

Scheduled to make its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show this week is Ford's brand-new B-MAX concept that previews the firm's upcoming small MPV, designed to replace the current European Fusion and rival the Opel Meriva. Based on the Fiesta platform, the almost production-ready minivan has some striking features, the most obvious being the new door concept. It has no B-pillar and the twin doors have a conventional opening system in the front and a sliding system in the back.

By eliminating the traditional B-pillar, Ford promises best-in-class access to the cabin without compromising safety. With both front and rear doors open, the aperture measures 1.5 metres, around twice the width offered by competitors, according to Ford.
“With its unique door format and dynamic design, the B-MAX sends a strong message that customers looking for a compact, stylish and versatile vehicle will soon have an exciting new choice,” said Stephen Odell, CEO of Ford Europe. Another highlight is the lack of door handles, with the opening system being remote-controlled.

The B-MAX measures is a little over 4 meters in length, and is 110mm longer than and 110mm taller than the Fiesta five-door hatch, with Ford promising enough room for five passengers. With the rear seats folded 60/40, the car offers a flat load floor that extends up to 2.35 meters in length when the front passenger seat is folded.
The B-MAX is powered by an all-new 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that uses EcoBoost technology and is equipped with Ford's Auto-Start-Stop system. The 3-cylinder unit uses turbocharging, direct fuel injection and twin independent variable cam timing to achieve significant reductions in fuel-consumption and CO2 emissions. This engine is set to replace larger conventional four-cylinder units in the future and is now undergoing the final development phase.
A production version of the B-MAX is expected to launch within the next two years.
